This week I’m happy to be sharing five new board books from Little Simon and to be partnering with them in an amazing giveaway of all five books. There are so many voices to be heard! This month visit your local bookstore or library and discover some of the amazing new books on the shelves! Being introduced to world languages, festivals, traditions, and more through books gives children a sense of belonging and community. Children especially benefit from learning about all the wonders of their world, from familiar people, places, and events to those from different cultures. IMAS cultural programs are supported in part by a grant from Humanities Texas.During National Book Month readers give special thought to the authors and illustrators who share their creativity and insight in books for all ages. McAllen Public Library’s electric display is dedicated to the inventor of the color television transmission system, Guillermo González Camarena. Mission Historical Museum’s altar is a tribute to the famous Mexican illustrator José Guadalupe Posada. ![]() The Boys & Girls Club of McAllen honored prolific artist Frida Kahlo with a vibrant display. UTRGV Center for Latin American Arts created an altar for iconic fashion designer Oscar de la Renta with hand-painted skulls by UTRGV MFA alumna Angelica Rodriguez. Six partnering organizations were invited to create an altar to honor the life and career of important creators and experts. The community altar exhibit includes seven colorful ofrendas on display at the IMAS through November 14. Community members are also invited to submit photos of their own altars to be featured in a virtual exhibit. The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) invites the community to celebrate Día de los Muertos by visiting the altars exhibit honoring individuals of color who led the way in art and science fields.
